SAFE SPORT TRAINING IS HERE!

Updated: Jan 22, 2023

Hello friends, We have an update for the 2022 season. As a member organization of USRowing, which also provides us with liability insurance for the club, USRowing has set a policy of requiring all adult (18+) members of member organizations to be Safe Sport trained. What does that mean? If you wish to row with CCR in 2022, you must take this training. Note there is a 90 minute training session for those in authority and a 30 minute training for adult athletes only. Here's answers to some questions you may have:

  • What is Safe Sport Training? Its designed to educate the sport community so all may participate without fear of physical, emotional and sexual abuse and misconduct.

  • What is the training? It's a course that you take online via the link below.

  • How long does this training take? The total estimated time is 30 minutes for the athletes only training - 90 minutes for those members in authority over athletes (coaches and board members)

  • What does this cost? It will cost you nothing to take the training, but you do need to be a paying member of USRowing. You'll need to register for the Basic Membership ($15) and use your USRowing number to access the free Safe Sport training.

  • What happens if you don't complete the training? You will not be able to row with CCR or any other USRowing Member organization. USRowing will be conducting audits of who has completed training and compare that to our roster. CCR would face penalties if you were to row without completing the training.

  • Are there exceptions? Yes. Learn to Row classes are exempt for their class. If they wish to continue rowing, the training would then become required, with a grace period so they may row while they work to completion of the training.

  • Will you need to do this every year? Yes, but once you've completed the first training, there is a shorter refresher to do each year.

Here's what you need to do: STEP ONE - Get your USRowing Membership Number. If you are already a Member - likely because you registered last year - it's a number you already have. If you do not, then you need to sign up with USRowing to become a Basic Member ($15). https://membership.usrowing.org/individual/join When you're asked for our Club Code it is U6YVK.

STEP TWO - Take your Safe Sport Training! https://usrowing.org/sports/2016/6/1/safesport.aspx When you register on the site, you'll be asked for your US Rowing Membership ID and you will see Safe Sport Training required link. Once you agree to terms, etc. it will take you to the 90 minute course registration, which if for Board members and coaches.. FOR ADULT ATHLETES: Scroll down until you see a "Catalog" tab. Scroll down through that until you see "Adult Athlete" 30 minute option, then proceed with that training.

Questions on the USRowing policy and requirements? Answers can be found here: https://usrowing.org/sports/2016/6/1/safesport.aspx Please do not wait. Complete the training ASAP so you don't need to worry about it when you start rowing this spring, usually in mid to late April. Remember ALL CCR Members are required to complete this training. You will not be allowed to row without it.
